My Philosophical Approach to Therapies Essay

My own Philosophical Way of Counseling

Meaning of Existential Therapy

One survey taken by Corey suggests a definition of Existential Therapy consist of two key elements:

Existential Therapy is essentially an approach to counseling and therapy rather than a company theoretical unit, it stresses core human conditions. Normally, personality creation is based on the uniqueness of every individual. Perception of home develops coming from infancy. Home determination and a tendency toward growth happen to be control tips. Focus is on the present and on what one is turning out to be; that is the approach has a future orientation. That stresses self-awareness before actions. (1996, s. 465)

In layman terms, Existential therapy can be described as a philosophical approach that is not created to cure people but instead help the client reflect and search for value and that means in life. Existential Therapy would not supply a cookbook of methods just like other strategies but rather it provides a framework that is flexible to the therapist, in which to view the individual plus the world in which they participate.

Definition of Person-Centered (Client-Centered) Therapy

Relating to Mosby's Medical, Medical, and Sibling Health Book, client-centered remedies are a non directive way of group or perhaps individual psychotherapy, originated by simply Carl Rogers, in which the part of the specialist is to pay attention to and reveal or restate without view or presentation the words in the client.

Aims of Existential Therapy

The objectives of Existential Remedy are quite unique. Existential counselors are focused on helping the client achieve and increase their self- awareness. A large number of Therapist assume once self awareness is usually achieved, the consumer can analyze new ways of dealing with complications and besides the responsibility of selecting.

Objectives of Client-centered Therapy

The objective of client-centered therapy is to aid the client to try out self search, so that they can determine problems that are hindering all their growth process. Essentially, the main goal of client-centered healing is to have the client achieve a perception of elevated awareness and understanding of his attitudes, thoughts, and behaviours.

Professional Views

Existential and client-centered remedy have been belittled for not staying " clinical enough". They've been down enjoyed as if she is not empirical but not having a healing model that may be firmly set in stone with a pair of methods and interventions. Numerous therapist think that Existential and client-centered remedy are not sound therapeutic techniques for dealing with and the diagnosis of adolescents. One main reason just for this argument is a existential view toward teenage life. Existentialist view adolescence as a time if a young person begins to gain a sense of awareness on a surface level. After achieving this level, the adolescent gradually starts to focus on do it yourself meaning, which takes place throughout the development of their particular identity(Hacker, 1994). Existentialist as well believe that how the individual conceptilizes death plays a part in the whole getting of the person. A survey of 82 students unveiled people viewed death while cold and denied. These details indicates fatality is very powerfulk

in creating anxiety in individuals (Westman, 1992, p. 1064).

Existential and client-centered therapy have not tagged themselves having a distinct scientific procedure, rather these tactics and concepts have been effective in helping patients to recognize and accomplish their very own goals. For that reason, I believe existential thought in conjunction with client-centered remedy are appropriate for clients who also confront some type of obstacle or perhaps major event in their life (confronting death, abrupt isolation, changing from child years to adolescence). David Cain(1993), a person-centered therapist, is convinced client-centered remedies are not a smart decision for treating clients in some instances, he sites that because of...
